Short-Term Independent Study is available to students who correctly fill out a contract and will be absent for 3-14 school days. Under the Education Code, Section 51747, a parent may request this optional, alternative strategy to cover consecutive absences. The student will receive attendance ONLY when the terms of the contract have been met. Students who do not fulfill the terms will not be eligible in the future and STIS will be canceled.
If you are in need of long term independent study, this is NOT the application. Please contact your student's counselor to complete the appropriate process.
If you are currently on STIS and have not returned to school, you do NOT need to complete this application again. Please email
lmartinez@avhsd.org to request an extension. However, we are unable to accommodate extensions beyond 14 days or during finals (12/21, 12/22, 6/5, 6/6).
If the STIS period begins more than two weeks from today, DO NOT apply. Please apply no more than two weeks in advance.
